Lesson Plans
7:45 – 8:10 Breakfast

Breakfast is provided to all students in the classroom. I’ll explain anything that I need to regarding picking up and behaviors. Breakfast will be shortened to either 8:00 or 8:05 in a couple of weeks.

8:10 – 8:20 Practice Procedure: Working on the carpet

We’ll review expectations of sitting on the carpet to receive instruction: sitting criss-cross, not blocking other student’s view, being silent during instruction, how to interact with each other, and how to gain the teacher’s attention.

8:20 – 8:45 Bilingual

As not all students will be receiving bilingual instruction, this day will encompass singing Spanish language songs from YouTube.

8:45 – 9:00 Practice Procedure: Getting in line and how to stand in line and recess procedures

I will explain what I expect when getting in line: getting into the line quickly and quietly, not pushing each other, being quiet in the line, and keeping hands to self. We will then practice and make corrections before going to morning recess. I’ll also explain about how they should act on the playground and where to go to the restroom while outside (cafeteria when open, main building when cafeteria is unavailable).

9:00 – 9:15 Morning Recess

We’ll get another chance to practice getting in line on the way back to class.

9:15 – 9:30 Pass-out math materials and Procedure Practice: Getting things from cubby/putting away things

At this time, I will pass out books and other materials and assign cubby holes to store things. This may take longer than the allotted 15 min. I will also explain how I expect students to leave their seating area to get things such as: materials form cubby holes, sharpening pencils, and going to backpacks.

9:30 – 10:15 Math

We will practice/review counting via YouTube videos and the large number line. We will then practice writing numbers (1-10) in both numeral form and written form. If time remains, we will color numbers using a worksheet set.

10:15 – 10:25 Review Procedure: Getting things from cubby/putting away things

As transitioning from activity to activity is crucial, we will spend time to practice.

10:25 – 10:45 Language Arts: Fundations

We will familiarize ourselves with the components of the Fundations kit: dry erase board, magnet board, magnet letters. I’ll explain where to get the dry erase markers and erasers. We will then practice writing letters as per the Fundations curriculum.

10:45 – 10:55 Review and Practice Procedure: Getting in line and working in the computer lab

We’ll go over computer lab expectations and procedures: where to sit and behave, how to log-on to the day’s activity, and what to do if problems arise. We’ll once again practice getting in line as we walk towards the lab.

10:55 – 11:20 Computer lab time

Students will go to www.pbskids.org for this day.

11:20 – 11:30 Practice Procedure: Going to lunch

We will walk back to the classroom to have students who brought lunches get them. I will then explain expectation in the lunchroom and what to do after lunch and after recess.

11:30 – 12:00 Lunch and Recess

12:00 – 12:15 Practice Procedure: Assigning class jobs and other responsibilities

Students will sit on the carpet upon returning from lunch/recess. Students will learn the different jobs/chores in the classroom and how you get assigned to a job. We will then spend the time assigning jobs.

12:15 – 12:45 Alphabet activity sheet

Students will recite the alphabet together with the teacher. Then students will return to their seats to work on a worksheet depicting the letters of the alphabet and a picture that starts with that letter (ex. a for apple, b for boat, c for cat). Students will spend time practicing the letters and saying the name of the items in the pictures.

12:45 – 1:30 “All About Me” activity set

Students will receive a packet that we will spend the entire week working on. In the packet, students respond to different questions that ask the students to indicate information about themselves (ex. family members, favorite color, favorite thing to do, etc).

1:30 – 1:45 Story

On the carpet, we will read the story “First Day Jitters” by Julie Danneberg and illustrated by Judy Love.

1:45 – 2:00 Practice Procedure: Getting ready to go home

We will determine who is going to the Park and Recreations Program, who is taking the bus home and who is being picked-up. We will walk to the pick-up area, dropping off the other two groups as we go. Students will remain with the teacher until their car is ready to pick them up.
